At ArtExplored, we are committed to creating and producing innovative art-

related content. We are not looking to compete with other art media but to

offer something resolutely different that is as interesting for connoisseurs as it is

understandable for novices. Aware of the challenges of this route, our aim is to

open up the art world and its market to those who want to discover it but may

need help deciphering it.

In compiling this first report, we wanted to create an original view of the market

of one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century. Indeed, it shares

data in a way never done before. We designed it as a practical guide destined

to anyone wishing to explore Francis Bacon’s auction sales history and discover

his best masterpieces at the same time. Hopefully, this report-album will give our

audience a better understanding of the evolution of Bacon’s market, whatever

their motivation and involvement.

To reach a wide range of readers, we have endeavoured to make the content

as accessible as possible. It includes a glossary of terms, brief explanations of

the artist’s practice, and numerous illustrations to appreciate his work’s diversity.

We used a top-down approach to review and examine Bacon’s market under the

following sections:

1.A global analysis of his auction sales over the last 20 years

2.A segmented analysis of his global market into four artistic periods –

referring to groups of works sharing a common aesthetic and produced

during a distinctive time period

3.A more specific analysis of selected pockets of the market based on common

characteristics found across Bacon’s top 10 most expensive artworks.

readers with keys to assessing the high-end of the art market. It will encompass

that of the most recognised artists in history, while their art and life can be
