Series
Monet created more than 215 Water Lilies in total:
F I R S T S E R I E S (1 8 9 7-1 9 0 3)
The f irst series numbers around 15 paintings. It features delicate, smaller compositions
capturing the serene beauty of Monet’s lily pond. These early works emphasise subtle
colours and light ef fects, laying the foundation for his later projects.

S E C O N D S E R I E S (1 9 0 4-1 9 0 8)
In the second series, numbering close to 70 paintings, Monet explored more details
through intricate compositions. He emphasised the complexity of light and ref lection on
water, using vibrant colours to create dynamic interplay of light and shadow, adding
depth and texture to his tranquil scenes.

T H I R D S E R I E S (1 9 1 4-1 9 2 0)
This series, totalling approximately 85 paintings, marks a signif icant shift in Monet’s
approach with bold, immersive scenes on larger canvases and more expressive brushwork.
These works capturing the expansive, almost abstract qualities of the water lilies and
their immediate surroundings.

The Grandes Décorations features 45 panels portraying large, panoramic views of
the water lily pond designed to envelop the viewer in an immersive experience With
